Lilly Pads

serengeti_thumb.jpgHave you ever had a toddler have a potty accident in their car seat? Have you ever had a child throw up in, spill juice on, or otherwise trash their car seat? Of course you have. And you know what a huge pain in the butt it is to unlatch and remove the car seat, unthread the belts, and take the cover off to wash it. Not to mention reassembling and repositioning the seat when you’re finished! There has to be a good solution, right? Well, there is! The Lilly Pad is a washable, waterproof car seat cover that is easily removable. How cool is that?

Now I have to admit that I, rocket scientist that I am, could not figure out how to put this cover on at first. I tried and tried and but it just didn’t make sense to me. My husband tried and couldn’t figure it out either. Then I watched the installation video on their website and voila, just like that, it clicked. It’s easy as pie if you have a clue what you’re doing. You don’t need to remove the seat from your car. You don’t have to remove the car seat cover or seat belts in order to use this. This waterproof, washable cover easily Velcros on right over the manufacturer’s cover. When your little one spills or otherwise messes up the car seat, just peel the Lilly Pad cover right off and toss it in the washer AND dryer!

Not only is this cover functional and easy to use, but it’s stylish as well. The Lilly Pad comes in a variety of chic and sassy, thick, soft fabrics with coordinating piping.

The Lilly Pad fits many 5 point harness car seats. Check here to see a complete list of car seats that the Lilly Pad cover fits. I really like this cover, however it doesn’t fit car seats with arm rests and my car seats all have arm rests, so…. I’m giving away the sample that Heidi, president of Lilly Pad, sent me to review. It’s “chocolate mint” color. To enter the drawing, leave a comment and check back on the 25th to see who the lucky winner is!

**Note: Please check the safety and warranty information regarding your car seat before installing car seat covers or any other car seat accessory.**

What a great idea! Not only do you not need to remove the car seat to wash this, you can still USE the car seat while this is being washed! Brilliant.

  2. Melanie Smith Said:

    These are amazing!! =)

  3. Beth Buster Said:

How awesome! Now if only someone could figure out how to cover the seat belts!

  4. Jennifer--mom of 3 under 5 Said:

I wish I had thought of this. But when your brain is lacking in cells as a side-effect of child bearing/rearing…

I could really use one or two of these. I HATE taking the darned things apart! I always work up a sweat and usually end up putting the straps in wrong. And I am always so worried that I won’t put the seats back in right and then have my children get hurt in an accident. So I’ll rest better knowing that when I put the car seat in and have it inspected, it’ll stay there until they grow to the next stage.

  5. Jennifer-On the Path to Glory Said:

How neato! I’ll take 3 please!

(And how funny is that I’m also a Jennifer-mom of 3 under 5)

  6. Jennifer S Said:

Oh! My daughter needs one of these! (Mostly because her dad can’t get the diapers on right and we have blow outs too often!)

  7. Deb Said:

Don’t hate me, but when I was reading this and you were listing all the “have you ever” the one that popped in my head that you didn’t mention was; “Have you ever had a kid puke in her car seat and you were in the middle of nowhere?” I remember it like it was yesterday!

  8. Jennifer from TN Said:

What an awesome idea!!! Anytime I see a product that makes life one step easier, I think to myself, “Why couldn’t I have thought of that?!?”
    AMAZING!

  9. Jana Said:

These really are so totally cool…the fabrics are SO yummy and the ripping-off and putting-back-on couldn’t be easier. Seriously don’t you wish you thought of it first!?!?!

  10. Cindy Diehl Said:

What a great idea! I’ve tried putting a towel under my daughter in the carseat, to help alleviate the problem of having to constantly clean the carseat, but she hates it and it’s not that easy to still get everything buckled. This sounds like a great new idea! Thanks for sharing.

What a fantastic idea! If only I’d thought of this myself…*sigh*.

  12. Denise Said:

Sounds like a great idea. That reminds me I need to put emergency puke clean up stuff in my car because everyone says it will happen one day.

  13. Charissa Ludlow Said:

I thought of trying to make one of these. Of course someone came up with it first. But now I don’t have to spend the time trying to figure out the measurements!

  14. Cheyna Said:

I LOVE this idea, I would love to have one!!!

  15. Stacy R Said:

LOOOVVVE it! That would be a great thing to have. We’ve gone through 2 kids already and their messes. Maybe the newest baby won’t have those issues with a new Lilly Pad.

  16. Tessa Said:

I am expecting my first totally-dependent miniature human being on the 31st of this month, and I have already been warned what a common occurrence this is, and to be prepared.

Anything that will prevent postpartum freakout events would be awesome! I’m sure there will be several that are non-preventable.

I just found this site a few weeks ago, and that same day, ordered one of the milkchic aprons - it’s packed in the bag to go to the hospital. What a great resource you have here for newbies like me!

  17. Amber Said:

What an awesome product! I. must. have. one.

  18. Sara K Said:

    Hope I win!

  19. Cami Said:

Oh, my twins could definitely use these… it seems so obvious only after someone else has come out with a product like this.

  22. Penny Said:

This is really neat! Cute and practical. It’s just what we all need.

  23. Jen Said:

awesome idea and they look so cozy too. my daughter gets little eczema flare ups on the backs of her shoulders if we don’t put a blanket between her and the carseat. this would totally solve that problem and wouldn’t be such a pain to reposition either! great find, guys!

  24. Andrea Said:

Wow!!! What a great idea. I will definitely need one of these :) By the way, your website is great. I love reading about new, interesting products for moms and kids. Keep up the good work :)

  25. Cyndy Said:

I have been thinking that I wished I sewed…something is always exploding, spilling, or what have you in the car seats. I love it! Pick me!

  26. Mary Said:

Milk spills on the carseat are awful since milk smells pretty bad sitting in the hot sun puddled up and soaked into the carseat fabrics! And you are right, taking off the cover for the wash is a big project involving removing the entire carseat and taking a screwdriver to the back of it. Very complicated. I love this product!!!

  27. Kelly Said:

I’ve been looking for something like this!! Yea! It’s awesome and oh so cute!

  28. Lauren Said:

What an awesome idea! My daughter has trashed her carseat cover and it is such a pain to remove!

  29. Kimberly in Ohio Said:

Well THIS sure would have come in handy when we took our niece on a 3 hour trip and she got car sick. I never seen so much baby vomit in my life! Oh that poor car seat! And it was NEW even! ugh! Might not protect everything I would need it to protect but it sure would have made cleaning that car seat a heckuva lot easier! *lol*

  30. Trista Said:

Can I just say, I have a two year old that I’m getting ready to potty train, and this is just the thing to get me to leave the house with her in underpants. It would put my mind at ease a little.

  31. Krista Said:

Sweet! I have a new car seat for my almost 1 year old. Maybe we can head off the trashing before it begins!

  32. motherof2boyrs Said:

im not posting to enter but to say that these are cute BUT VERY UNSAFE and will void the warranty on the car seat there should never be an aftermarket product between a child and their car seat these are not tested with car seats so they should not be used with them please check your car seat manual or contact the company before using anything extra on your car seat

  33. Lauren H Said:

Oh what a fantastic idea. I wish it would fit my highchair…ooops - My idea, I thought of it first!!!!

  34. Joyce Counihan Said:

Ooooohhhh….yummy! This would be so nice for the #2 child who gets all the ratty hand me downs and none of the pretty new just-out-of-the-box-at-the-baby-shower-fresh stuff! Pick me! Pick me!

  35. tara Said:

this would be great as we spend a lot of time in our car. it sure is a pain to take out her carseat when it’s -45celsius!

  36. Bren Said:

How clever! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve struggled to get seats back together after an accident. I’d love to have one of these!

  37. Lara Heck Said:

Perfect! I soooooo need one of these! Especially since kids have to be in carseats till their about 14 these days!

  38. Lolls Said:

I so needed this this morning…

  39. nava Said:

Oh my LORD I could use these! My boy is either spitting up or drooling if conscious; I’ve already had to wash out his walker seat 2x, and I’m dreading disassembling the car seat now too. Even if I don’t win, I’ll get a couple.

  40. Tabitha Said:

Wow- these are fantastic! Please pick me! I’m “just” a mom to one adorable 4 month old baby boy, but he sure can make a mess!

  41. Joanie Said:

Man, don’t I wish I was the genius who invented these! Over Thanksgiving my daughter got car sick on our 7 hour trip, and WHAT A PAIN it was to clean THAT off her car seat! And this is a great product with VELCRO– every mom’s best friend. Thanks for the review.

  42. Jess Said:

Ooh, this looks perfect for my son who is just growing into toddlerhood. What a great giveaway!

  43. Kelly Glashauser Said:

OK so we have lost our minds and are going on a “vacation” from NY to FL in february….the last road trip we took my 2yo vomited all over the place from car sickness…..we could really really really use this!

    Kelly

  44. Amy Said:

I have 2 kids that are 13 months apart, and we are constantly washing carseat covers. I’ve gotten to the point now of just putting a towel under them and making it work. And now we’re in the midst of potty training, so it’s bound to get even worse! Please pick me for the drawing!

  45. Donna Said:

Looks like a good thing to have for those future car accidents, and maybe just maybe the car sear might get cleaned if I had one!

  46. Kim Spaniel Said:

Love it!!! My son threw up in his carseat all the time. I wish I had this for the time when we were running late to the Texas Ranger’s baseball game and he decided to puke everywhere as we backed out of the driveway! I guess I should be grateful we were still in the driveway and not stuck in rush hour traffic!!!

I definitely need one for my daughter…she’s constantly spilling her milk or soaking through her diaper because I have been too busy running errands to make it home before naptime that I didn’t even take time to change her! :)

  47. Shelly Said:

    Neat idea!

    Love the different colors.

  48. Kari Said:

    Very cute!!

  49. Chris Said:

Wish I would have had one of these for my carsick daughter! Not sure how many times I cleaned oatmeal and yogurt off her carseat. Would love to be entered in the drawing for my son though! Thanks!

  50. Kedj Said:

what a great idea! I have a seat on the list, and a very messy 4 year old. Would love to win it!

  51. Ally P Said:

What an AWESOME idea! Thanks for entering me :)

  52. Andrea Said:

What a neat idea! Looks really useful…don’t know that I would be able to spend half the cost of a carseat on one, but cool nonetheless. It’d be awesome to win one ;-)

  53. Cindy Said:

I’ve already left a comment…but I had to leave one more. I was shocked by the cost of the Lilly Pad when I clicked on the link to the website - $120 is a bit steep. The cover looks and sounds great and I would love to be the winner…but I am afraid that the cost of this product will keep frugal me from ever buying one.

  54. stacey moore Said:

awesome giveaway!! we would love to win!! thanks

  55. Lisa Said:

I hate it when there has been an “accident” - usually the accident is stinky and has to be dealt with right away - and then the car seat is out of commission until it’s dry. This is a great idea.

  56. Mary White Said:

OMG! How cool! The inventor is my hero!!

  57. Amanda Said:

I NEED one of these! Genius!

  58. nicole Said:

With 2 kids still in carseats and one on the way, this is something I could definitely use.

  59. Melinda Said:

The world needs more smart people like this to think up solutions to the problems that we all encounter! Great idea.

  60. Lacy Said:

So smart!! Would love to give it a try!

  61. april Said:

ooooooooo!!!!! You mean I could easily clean off Cheetoes and gooey fruit snacks without having to take a course in Removing the Carseat Cover and actually remembering how to thread the straps back 101?

  62. Allison Said:

Wow! That idea is SO awesome! My son is extremely carsick, and we literally have to wash it at least once a week from him throwing up! And it is such a pain to take the carseat apart! This is great!

  63. therese Said:

I like this alot but if it is “vinyl/plastic” wouldn’t liquid just run (possibly) through the “slits” til it hits the carseat?

  64. abby Said:

Oh, this would be sooooo nice to have. My daughter has gotten sick on the last two looong car rides home and it would have been so nice to just pull this off and wash it instead of driving for 6 hours with that smell in the car. *crossing my fingers for a win*

  65. twinsanity Said:

Wow, that’s great. I need two of those for my 2 year old twins.

  66. Maurine Said:

I have a toddler that regularly gets car sick…I think I’ll be needing one!

  67. Shellie Said:

These are great! A must have on the shopping list for sure.

  68. Jessica Said:

I don’t know if I’m too late or not, but I desperately need one of these for my sons carseat. So I thought I’d give it a shot. I just love all the info your page has!!!

  69. V. Savage Said:

I would absolutely love one of these. I have experienced all of these mess situations with the little ones.

  70. Corrine Said:

that has to be the coolest thing ever. it reminds me of the time warner cable commercials where they invented it first in their minds and anyway totally something I have always wanted and need! Way cool! Thanks for sharing!

  71. Crystal CPSA Said:

This is beautiful but is very dangerous and could prevent a child restraint form doing it’s job to protect a child. Please do research on child restraints no after market product(something bought separate from the seat)before using anything with it. Read the manual it will tell you not to use it. Better yet call the manufacture they will tell you it is not allowed! Your child’s safety is much more important them convenience and looks!
