How to Take Care of MY Kids

004.JPG

You have to hold the baby to get her to go to sleep.  Clay goes to bed at about 8:00.  He usually asks for a sippy cup of water.  Make sure you give Lexi her antibiotics before she goes to bed at about 8:30.  Jax always has to have a snack before he goes to bed.  It’s fine.  Let him make himself a sandwich or have some cereal or something.  Make sure Austin and Savannah read at least twenty minutes before they go to bed……

This is just the beginning of my instructions to a babysitter.  Let’s face it, no one can take care of our kids the way we do.  No one knows them like we do.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a handy reference guide for sitters so they could easily look up the answers to their care-giving questions?  How long do you heat the bottle?  Does the baby take a pacifier at night?  How much TV are they allowed to watch?  What if I can’t get a hold of the parents?  Who should I call in an emergency?

0051.JPGBy The Book -How to Take Care of MY Kids by Melissa Bishop and Karen Berg is just the thing you need!  This book is actually a handy binder with pages you can fill with information about caring for your children.  It’s divided into sections that deal with basics, medical info., emergency info., etc.   Each section deals with different aspects of childcare like nap time routines, how to feed the fish, and what things are allowed.  Some sections are helpful to the four hour babysitter while others apply to the full-time nanny.  See just how much is in this book by taking a look at the Table of Contents here!
This book is fully customizable.  There are extra pages in the book and replacement pages can be ordered as your family grows and changes.  There is even useful information on finding a nanny, nanny interviews, and contracts.

This is a must have for parents who work outside the home and for parents who like to get out and leave their children with a sitter now and then.  It makes a terrific, unique gift for expectant mothers as well!

This is great! If I don’t win one, I’ll definitely buy!

  • This is an AWESOME idea. i hate hate hate trying to tell someone who watches my daughter EVERYTHING. not to mention i forget half of what i intended to tell them

What a great idea! I haven’t had a babysitter come over yet because I am dreading typing out all of the directions. I love how you can customize it too!

  • How neat! When I first left my children at a sitters I think I wrote a book out for them with instructions. This would be so much easier.

What a great idea! I have a daughter with Down syndrome and although she is as easy to care for as the other 2, I still feel like I leave a ton of instructions. My husband would appreciate being able to get out the door in less than 40 minutes! I drive him crazy sometimes. This would even be great for the grandparents!

    What a very clever idea!

This is a wonderful idea….I have 3 children and 2 of them have Autism….I am always struggling to keep all of their info in one spot, so this would be perfect!!!!

  • looks like a great book!

As a girl who constantly babysat growing up, this would have been a godsend at some people’s homes. Some kids like to play with the sitter, “of course my mom lets me eat 12 cookies before going to bed, I can’t sleep without them.” This would have been nice to have in situations like that :)

What a wonderful idea!!!! Maybe then my husband wouldn’t call me every 10 minutes when he’s in charge?? ;-)

  • Wow that is awesome…i want a chance to win that handy thing

  • What a wonderful idea. I agree that this would be great for grandparents as well. There’s always something I forget to tell them. If I don’t win, I will probably be buying one (but not till after the gift-giving season is over).

    What a great idea!

This would be so handy to have! Just the other night, I left a bunch of my chicken scratch scribbled all over steno-book notebook paper and have no idea if the sitter understood a word of it.

What a super idea! Maybe it will help us actually get around to getting a sitter and going out once in awhile. . .

Oh that is such a great idea. I can’t even think about how many times I’ve needed one of these!

This is an awesome idea. Not only for babysitter, but my Mother in law watches my daughter while I work and I could have used this big time when I first started leaving her there when she was 3 months old! I would def. like one for the next kiddo and this one when we start using babysitters other than grandma!

This is great!!!! I can’t wait for my book to arrive! It will be so nice to have everything in one place and the ability to easily update the information. Why hasn’t anyone thought about this before?

  • What a wonderful idea! If we had sitters I’d definitely buy one.

Love this…I have a book like this for ‘my’ stuff, but not so much for my kids!

  • What a great idea. I think I will order one, of course that is if I don’t win one.

  • Angela

Excellent idea!! Never have a doubtful moment while leaving them with someone. Well…almost doubtful. At least you can fill this out prior to the rush rush rush of trying to get out the door without the kids noticing. LOL

Wonderful idea! I know a ton of moms who would love to have this. Also useful for husbands as one poster said! Maybe mine would quit calling me every 5 minutes, too…

  • Stephanie

This is so true, I feel like I leave a ton of intructions on too many pads of paper and then lose it, and have to re-do the process. *smacking forehead* This would be such a useful tool.

Yeah that husband thing is good too. Or when my mom takes the kids, usually we don’t have issues, except she has Fibro now and tends to forget some things, and if I forget my cell (which I do), its a bad thing. :(

  • ordering 2 but still would like a free one for a friend … haha love the site and the products!

Wow, what a great idea! This would be so beneficial to anyone who watches your kids, be it a sitter, husband, friend, or mother. How handy this would be if you had to leave your kids with someone in case of an emergency & didn’t have time to go through all the things that are already in this book. It would give you such peace of mind to know that all this information was already written down. And with the customizable pages, you can change things as your kids wants & needs change, which could be daily! Can’t wait to purchase my own copy!

This would be a perfect gift for my pregnant sister. I can’t wait to buy one. What a cute idea!

  • that looks like a great help for moms. I hope I get it!

This is just the book I need. I always forget some vital piece of information to tell the babysitter. You know…like that J only needs 1 square of toilet paper when he pees. He actually called my Mom a waster last weekend. Gotta love kids.

This book is great. We’re always rushing to leave the house so having this information all in one place has saved me. My sitter knows exactly where the instructions are in case she has a question.

  • How to take care of our newish 8wk old daughter.

    1. don’t put her down. You can NEVER put her down.

    2. well now that you have put her down for what you thought was a nap and was abruptly made aware of, was that somehow, someone snuck an air raid siren into her crib.

    3. see number 1

Honestly, the book sounds like a wonderful idea and will need to investigate further. When pleading with someone to watcher her for just a few hour so we can get 4 hours of solid sleep. It would be nice to leave the instruction manual.

    really

I’d love one of these! My son has food allergies and I would love to have all of his instructions in one place! Of course, I could do it myself, but…

  • Mindy

What a great idea! Not only do I want a copy for myself but these would make great gifts for the holidays and for baby showers.
